The Make It Your Business Event is hosted and organized by local businesswoman, Siobhan Stirling, Director of Sharp Minds Agency in Tunbridge Wells.
Siobhan has a strong commitment to providing career opportunities for working parents and young people, having successfully nurtured four apprentices.
Sharp Minds also proactively support several charities and start-ups. Previously a journalist, Siobhan spent nearly 20 years with the BBC as a reporter, presenter and producer on radio and TV, as well as writing for national newspapers and magazines. She is also a published author, with her book “Sleep–helping your child to sleep through the night” published in several languages.
Kim Simmonds, CEO and Founder, started Law 365 in 2014 after her first child was born, because she didn’t see any good examples around her of women in the legal profession who had a good balance of career and family life – and she knew that could change.
Kim wanted to create a specialist law firm that would make legal advice affordable and bespoke for Microsoft Partners while providing better work/life balance for her employees. 1 in 100 VAT registered companies in the UK is a Microsoft Partner and their ripple effect is felt by every business that relies on them to implement Microsoft products, migrate data to the cloud and support IT. Ruth began her career as a corporate lawyer and worked for magic circle firm Herbert Smith Freehills where she worked for various FTSE clients and was involved in several deals which were on the front page of the financial times. Ruth then moved to American firm Brown Rudnick where she specialised in Venture Capital, working various start up companies which are now household names.
After having her son and taking some maternity time off to enjoy him, Angela decided she was ready for a new project when he was just over a year old. For 14 months, she researched and planned, setup and ran business networking events, attended events as a finance expert speaker and generally networked. After this time, in January 2020 she set up Angel’s Business Solutions Ltd, utilising not only her core expertise and training in accountancy but also using her other skills as a coach, mentor and trainer, offering micro to small businesses a full range of financial and business support. With Clients based around England, our ethos is to provide them with what other accountancy firms do not offer – full business advice and support using a range of methods that utilises all my skills and experience, not just number crunching. In addition to being a mum running Angel’s Business Solutions Ltd, I’m also on the executive committee for the Crowborough Chamber of Commerce, a Governor on the Board of Governors at my son’s school and Treasurer of the PFA, again at my sons school.
Needless to say, I do keep very busy and the little time I have left, I love to do crossword and sudoku puzzles. I also spend time as my son’s social secretary and running him to his various clubs.
All in all, I’m blessed to be surrounded by amazing and positive people and love both being a mum, business owner and being involved in the various groups which I find all very rewarding.
Becci is a passionate advocate for the planet, so you might be a little surprised to hear that in 2007 she ditched her ecologist’s career to become a Leadership and Wellness Coach.
Inspired by a 3-month volunteer project in Madagascar, Becci realised that it isn’t the planet that needs saving, but people. Disconnected from who we are and burdened by trauma, it is people that need to be healed in order to stop us harming the ecosystem.
After an epic year of retraining in 2010, the leadership and development business HorseSense UK was born. Prompted by her 1-year stint in the NHS, Becci realised that classroom-based leadership training wasn’t enough to face the challenges businesses and society were facing. The planet needed the wisdom of nature to solve the complex issues ahead of them. Backed by her charismatic grey gelding Murphy, she built her business from nothing more than access to a farm, three retired competition horses and a desire to prove that being successful and being sustainable are the same thing.
Whilst horses and personal development is not the first thing most people think of when they get out of bed in the morning, her clients have still managed to include Nissan, Imperial College, British Geological Survey, Virgin Atlantic and the NHS.
Her work, in Mark Cross just south of Tunbridge Wells, now includes children and adults with anxiety and low self-esteem, and those on the spectrum that find modern living overstimulating and stressful.
